“Great fun – we ended every day exhausted and happy.”

5 out of 5
The house is big and roomy – loads of space for kids to play in the garden and ride the bikes around in the driveway. We loved having the freedom to walk our dog down the private riverside path away from anyone else, this was great as we could let our 9 year old take the dog, which she loved, without worrying about meeting anyone else. The highlight of the trip was definitely the kayaks and canoe. Garry recommended a wonderful spot which was very sheltered and the water quite shallow – this and having all the safety gear was perfect for beginners like us. We managed to get the kayaks to the lakeside in our hatchback but a roof rack would definitely help.Taking the canoe down the river proved a big hit as well – again we had never done this before so it felt like a real adventure. We didn’t get too much opportunity to explore on the bikes as we were busy on the water but there are plenty of quiet roads in the area to explore for all abilities of cyclists.Bourke’s is a great coffee shop in Mountshannon (about 10 mins by car) that makes lovely buns and cakes. The house itself has everything you need for a relaxing break – it is very comfortable with a nice lived in feel. The views down to the lake were lovely to wake up to each morning. The donkeys at the front of the house were also a great hit.I would recommend the house to anyone but especially those with children who enjoy being active. We brought a games console for our daughter just in case she got bored and it was never taken out of the bag and she didn’t ask for it once. All she wants to know now is when are we going back.

“lovely house, wonderful surroundings, a very friendly owner”

5 out of 5
We stayed for 1 week at this very spacious house.
It is well maintained with all the necessary appliances to make it also a comfortable stay.
Also recommended is to visit the Burren (take the farmers trail and get yourself some goat cheese), Connemara, Galway and do get yourself a drink at the owners pub :-)
The owner is very friendly and cooperative with any question you might have.
All the Irish people we met were very friendly btw.
If you want to dine out we also might suggest to go to the Chinese restaurant in Portumna and for a quick bite go to the half barrel pub in Whitegate.
We can strongly recommend this house to anyone.
for Internet access also go to the owners pub as this is not available at the house itself.
(unless you have mobile access)

“Amazing trip to Ireland”

5 out of 5
We stayed at the Lakeview House in Gurteeny, County Galway, Ireland. The house is beautiful and the grounds are very nice and spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed the nice kitchen area and the family room (with the TV). Because Portumna is only 15 miles away it was easy for us to go to the store to buy groceries and cook breakfast at the house every morning. The bedrooms are nice and spacious and the two main bathrooms are also very large. The new room in the front of the kitchen is also great for having breakfast/lunch/dinner. The house was easy to find from Shannon Airport, simply leave the airport towards Ennis, then once near Ennis follow the signs to Scarriff, then once in Scarriff take the road to Portumna. You’ll see the house about 1 mile outside of Coos. Overall it was a wonderful trip and we WILL be back to stay at the Lakeview House again. Thank you to Garry Gorman who is a wonderful host!

“A hidden gem”

5 out of 5
The house is set on it’s own land beside a river that runs into Lough Derg. There are 3 kayaks, a double kayak, a set of high quality bikes, fishing rods, wetsuits, safety equipment that come with the house. In addition there is a boat house a short walk downstream that contains a canadian style canoe for exploring the river/lake.The house has four spacious bedrooms, including a downstairs bedrooom suitable for reduced mobility visitors. This part of Lough Derg is very tranquil. It was amazing to see the wildlife out on the lake from the kayaks. The local cafe/shop (The Cornerstone), in Gorteeny does great coffee and there is a great place for lunches in nearby Whitegate.

“Great Discovery”

4 out of 5

Great discovery –A  haven for teenagers and children.

Bikes were brilliant –touring around area. Our   first fishing trip   with rods (provided here) to Williamstown   harbour. Kayaks provided great adventure out on the local shore. We explored the river using canoes (just like Indiana Jones).

Best coffee this side of the Shannon to be found at Corner Stone just up the road.

Yummy lunches at great prices in the Half Barrel   Whitegate .Good afternoon tea and scones at Mountshannon –behind newsagents (part of it) Bourke’s.

We will be back!!  House feels like home and has been well cared for-especially dining area garden.

“Very nice stay at this great house”

4 out of 5

We had a very nice stay at this great house especially liked the donkeys which arrived a few days

later. Our kayak expedition was less successful. W e stranded twice due to a dam and fallen tree

and  never reached the lake unfortunately. Holy Island was also very beautiful .

We recommend the farm –loop trail at the Burren.-Drink some of the holy water (watch out for ticks!)

Connemara: long drive but very beautiful!

For grocery shopping go  to the Aldi shop in Portumna.

Very good Chinese food

We hope you enjoy your stay as well.

Special thanks to the owner Garry.
